As the days get shorter and the temperatures get cooler, now is the time to prepare your lawn for the Winter and start prepping it for a beautiful Spring! William Blount & Associates has put together a few Fall lawn care tips to help you.

Adjust! Lower your mower deck down to the normal mowing height of about 2 inches tall (for most grasses). Cutting your lawn a little bit shorter will prevent from matting under the leaves and snow. Don't cut it too short! That will create a breeding ground for weak grass and weeds!

Fertilizer! Fertilizing your lawn adds in extra nutrients. These nutrients are stored and then used during the dormancy period of Winter. It allows the roots to keep growing.

Seeding! Seeding during the Fall improves density-- and remember that density is the strongest defense against insects and weeds! Plus, it improves the overall appearance of your lawn. It also helps the lawn from the heavy use during the Summer.

Areate! Areating your lawn helps undo some of the compaction that happened to your lawn because of the Summer playing. It also improves the ability to absorb oxygen and nutrients.

If your grass is becoming thin, you might also want to Reseed!

Rake! It's best o blow or rake your yard about once a week while the leaves are falling. It not only makes your yard look more maintained, but it also keeps sunlight feeding your lawn. The Fall is the last time your lawn can store up it's food before Winter.

Pest Control! The Fall is the best time to do some grub control. Grub control protects your lawn from pests. If you wait until Spring, you could be past the time to help.

Winterize! Winterizing your lawn mower to get it ready for Spring mowing. Also, winterizing your shrubs, trees to prepare them for the cooler temperatures.
